NEW MATERIAL:A conjugated polysaccharide of formula I (R<1> is H or benzyl; R<2> is H or acetyl). USE:Reagents such as intermediate for cell surface glycoprotein and biosynthesis inhibitor for elucidation of biological significance or function of said glycoprotein. PREPARATION:A disaccharide compound of formula II (Ac is acetyl; X is halogen) and a novel disaccharide compound of formula III (Bn is benzyl) are made to react at -20-150 deg.C for 1-30hr pref. in a solvent such as toluene to form a novel fetrasaccharide, which is then debenzylated, acetylated and converted to the corresponding fetrasaccharide halogenide followed by reaction with a disaccharide receptor of formula IV, and, if needed, further debenzylation and deacetylation to prepare the objective compound of formula I .
