A spiral staircase having a central column (11) of circular cross-section and a multiplicity of steps is presented, each step (14) having a curved fastening plate (15) on its inner end section, which plate bears against the outer surface of the column in a precisely fitting manner, as well as a fastening pin (16), which extends radially inwards from the fastening plate (15) through corresponding openings in the wall of the hollow column (11), each of the fastening pins (16) having an upwardly extending slot (17), in which the wall of the column (11) partially engages in such a way that one of the surfaces of the slot presses against the inside of the column wall, so that the step (14) does not tilt away. <IMAGE>
