They are each mounted on one arm of a cranked lever whose other arm 121 is pivoted on a coupling on a shift rod 13 parallel to the strand 3 and longitudinally displaced by an hydraulic cylinder (15) at one end, to insert or retract a number of spacers 12 each associated with a ram piston-rod 7. Several pairs of holders 5, 51 bearing a number of roller pairs 1, 2 are arranged consecutively along the strand path; The roll bearing members 4, 411 are spring- loaded perpendicularly to the strand, by dished annular springs, Fig. 4 (not shown).
