PURPOSE:To prevent the deformation of a separator and improve the electrolyte retention properties by providing two or more small holes that penetrate into both surfaces of nonwoven fabric made of narrow fiber and burying noncompressible porous material into these small holes to form the separator. CONSTITUTION:A separator installed between the negative and positive electrode plates of a sealed type lead storage battery is formed by providing two or more small holes 10 on a separator main body made of nonwoven fabric comprising both glass fiber and synthetic fiber and burying noncompressible porous material 2 such as ceramics with the same thickness as that of the main body 1 in these small holes 10. As a result, even if high clamping force is applied to the separator main body 1 when a group of plate is assembled, the thickness of the separator is prevented from being deformed by the actuation of porous material 2 and a preset electrolyte can be retained with good controllability. At the same time, the pores required for the circulation of oxygen can be secured for a long period of time and battery performance can be improved. |
