A radiation-emitting surface is substantially protected, by conventional insulation at its back and by a system of reflective surfaces at its front, against unwanted ingress of air. Furthermore, the radiation characteristics are improved by the reflective system, so that amounts of heat can be given off at night at temperatures which are lower than has been achieved hitherto in a similar manner. In the daytime, the same system makes it possible, given a suitable surface quality, to take off amounts of heat above the ambient temperature. While the temperature difference thus achievable is lower than that which can be achieved in a multiply covered solar collector, the bottom temperature is lower, which results not only in a higher energy proportion at the same temperature difference, but also in easier convertibility, especially by means of sorption machines.
