The invention relates to a method for the burr-free longitudinal division of metal strip which has to satisfy stringent requirements and which is processed and machined, for example, for the profiling and/or longitudinal welding of tubes in encasing systems. Strips of this type, before their further machining, are cut at the edges by circular-knife shears. The formation of thin burrs is often unavoidable, and this in turn leads to welding errors which mean that the finished product will be rejected. The aim of the invention is to produce a strip of high cutting quality which can be processed in a fault-free manner in the subsequent processing stages, such as profiling, but especially tube profiling with a following longitudinal-welding process. Associated with this is the object of cutting strips continuously in the longitudinal direction in a burr-free manner. The object is achieved, according to the invention, in that the strip (4) which is running in and which is to be cut passes in an S-shaped manner through the region of the shears by way of a deflecting roller (6) and the edge strips (3) are removed from the cutting zone (7) in a curved manner via the advanceable circular knife (5) in the opposite direction to the strip running direction of the cut strip (2). <IMAGE>
