In order considerably to lower the sound level of a suction unit, accommodated in a covering hood, of a suction device, it is proposed to fit the covering hood on the inside with a sound-proofing lining and to provide inside the covering hood a ventilation device to which at least one suction opening is assigned on the covering hood. Additionally, the ventilation device is to be connected to an air inlet opening. The ventilation device thus constantly extracts heated air from the covering hood during operation of the suction unit, as a result of which overheating of the suction unit due to the insulation of the covering hood provided by the heat-insulating lining is avoided.
