PURPOSE:In preparing crystal of YB66 by floating zone method, to prepare high- quality large-sized crystal, by growing crystal by the use of indirectly heating method. CONSTITUTION:The tip of the polycrystalline rod 4 of YB66 is positioned at the central part of the heating tungsten ring 5 having larger diameter of given dimension than the rod 4. The temperature of the ring 5 is raised by high-frequency heating by the high-frequency coil 7, the temperature of the tip of the rod 4 is raised by radiant heat from it, only the tip is melted, and a liquid drop is formed. The seed cyrstal 1 is brought into contact with the liquid drop from the lower part, and, after they get intimate with each other fully, the crystal 1 and the rod 4 are transferred downward at given velocity, respectively. By this heating method, since heating by high frequency uses tungsten having good electrical conductivity, oscillation frequency usually used for heating metals is applied, and high-frequency repulsion force like direct heating will not occur, a melting zone is kept stably. Consequently, high-quality large single crystal is easily obtained. |
