An abdominal wall aperturing device comprises an elongated body having a roatable handle at one end thereof. A shaft axially extends through said body and has an end extendable beyond the body to enable an anvil to be attached thereto. The other end of the shaft is threadably coupled to the handle so that when the latter rotates an axial motion is imparted to the shaft. A knife-surrounding cartridge is attachable to the body end through which the shaft extends to the anvil. Means are included within and outside the body to impart a rotational and/or axial motion to the knife to advance it through a compressed abdominal wall to cut an aperture therein.
