A coating method and a device in which a carrier which is to be coated is guided by a first rotary body, a fluid coating mass is applied to a second rotary body and the fluid coating mass is transferred from the second rotary body to the carrier, the first and second rotary bodies being pressed against one another with the carrier being interposed between them and the first and second rotary bodies being freed of the contact pressure and separated from one another during an interruption in the coating process.
