This felt comprises a support-fabric 1 consisting of a filamentary structure and a layer of fibres 2 which is needled to the support fabric, at least on one of its faces. Outside the surface part 4 of the fibre layer facing the paper sheet, the felt is filled with a filling material 3 so that it is completely impervious to air and has a surface like chamois leather 2a. A barrier layer is formed in the fibre layer to oppose the entry of the filling material into the surface facing the sheet. The barrier layer is obtained by calendering the surface of the fibre layer facing the sheet so as to make it smooth and compact, by introducing into the fibre layer a layer of fine fibres or an intermediate filtration layer on the side facing the sheet. The filling of the felt prevents the phenomena of blowing and of rewetting at speeds of up to 1000 m/min. <IMAGE>
