The unit for storing and/or cleaning (paint) brushes comprises a container with a lid and means for holding the brushes. The lid is provided with at least one opening to receive the handle of a brush whilst the holding means are arranged by this opening and largely close this opening whether or not a brush is held in it. The holding means may consist of a flexible plastic, pref. silicone rubber, sheet (7) provided with cross-cuts forming lips above (or below) the openings.
