The umbrella collapsible frame comprises a shaft with an elongate section carrying the collapsible frame (1). A second elongate section (2) is hinged to the first to allow folding against each other. The axis of the hinge (4) pivot pin is normal to the longitudinal axes of the two shaft sections. A space is provided between the two shaft sections to accommodate a part of the frame when it is collapsed and shaft sections folded. The hinge parts are releasably interlocked when the two shaft sections are longitudinally aligned. This interlock can be provided by an elongate aperture in one of the hinge pivots, allowing relative movement, with a pair of hooks to align the shafts longitudinally.
