PURPOSE:To obviate that a lens material has internal strain or voids, by filling a space between a containerlike mold having a convex inner bottom surface and a pluglike mold fitted therein with a monomer liquid as a raw material, irradiating it with an ultraviolet ray to polymerize it, and machining the convex surface of the polymer together with the mold. CONSTITUTION:The convex inner surface of the bottom 3 of a containerlike mold 1 is abraded and planished into a convex surface 4 for molding a concave surface. The forward end surface of a pluglike mold 5 is formed into a concave surface that corresponds to the convex surface 4, and the pluglike mold 5 has a liquid pool passage 8 through it whose base end is formed with a liquid pool port 9 in the shape of an inverted cone. A monomer liquid is dropped into the containerlike mold 1 to fill the molding space between the containerlike mold 1 and the pluglike mold 5 that is approximately uniform in transverse distance until the monomer liquid rises in the liquid pool port 9 of the liquid pool passage. An ultraviolet ray is allowed to strike from the side of the bottom 3 of the containerlike mold thereby the monomer liquid in the molding space is molded into a lens material. While this state is kept, they are machined, and the lens material is removed, and is swelled in physiologic saline to produce a soft contact lens capable of containing water. |
