Hitherto, foreign magnetisable materials have been supplied to the feed material for the separation. The supplying of foreign magnetisable materials to the feed material however entails a high outlay in terms of work, time and cost for the provision and recovery of these materials and hence is uneconomical in many cases. These disadvantages are however eliminated according to the invention, in that at least a partial stream of the fractions which are themselves magnetisable are branched off from the material emerging from the magnetic separator and is returned to the feed material. <IMAGE>
