An item of winter sports equipment having two runners (1) has a pivotable standing plate whose pivoting movement can be transmitted to the two runners (1) via a pivoting mechanism. Mounted on one of the two runners (1) is a safety brake device which has a brake arm (12) which can be pivoted about a bearing axle (13), inclined in the longitudinal direction, and bears a stoppage blade (15). The stoppage blade (15) can be pivoted from a position of readiness, in which it is located above the runner (1), into a braking position in which it is located completely below the running sole of the runner (1). The release takes place by a Bowden cable (10) which is connected to a release stop which projects over the standing plate. The pivoting movement of the brake arm (12) is effected by a leg spring (18) (Figure 4). <IMAGE>
