PURPOSE:To execute easily inexpensive welding with a high rate of deposition by placing a large current switching element in parallel with an arc, shunting periodically the current from a power source to the arc and switching the arc current and the wire current. CONSTITUTION:A tungsten electrode 1 and a base metal 2 are connected by a welding power source 3 and a circuit 24 to from an arc 5 between the elctrode 1 and the base metal 2 is constituted. A gate turn-off thyristor 23 is connected to the circuit 24 and a wire 6 so as to be paralled with the arc 5. When the thyristor 23 is off, arc current flows between the electrode 1 and the base metal 2 to form the acrc 5, thereby melting the metal 2 and the wire 6. When the thyristor turns off, the current to the arc 5 is bypassed to flow from the metal 2 to the wire 6, by which the wire 6 is heated and the melting speed is increased. In other words, the arc current AP flows when the thyristor 23 is off and the wire current WP flows when the thyristor is on. The arc current AP is the base current AB. |
