The electric bicycle is constructed, within the scope of the present invention, by the installation of an electric brake instead of the usual brake blocks. The sport can then be practised exactly as before except that difficult parts of the course are made easy to undertake, by the power of an electric motor driven by an accumulator battery which is systematically recharged whenever a descent requires the use of the retarder. The mechanical assembly, of motor, pulley and rim is linked together by a belt with a tension device - the electric brake acts alone for recharging the accumulator - the additional inertia required of the assembly is equal to the resistance in ordinary free-wheel. For children, old people, persons needing physiotherapy, and for the disabled, the invention provides the electric bicycle, an opportunity to practise a good sport with the least possible risks. <IMAGE>
