Process for obtaining aqueous glyoxylic acid solutions

Process for obtaining aqueous glyoxylic acid solutions which are essentially free from other acids, from aqueous solutions which furthermore contain other acids, by mixing the aqueous solution with an organic nitrogen compound at temperatures of up to 50 DEG C, separating the phases and extracting the glyoxylic acid from the organic phase at a higher temperature using water.
