Butadiene is hydrogenated in a mixture contg. primarily butene-1 or -2 without isomerisation of the olefin, by leading the mixture with H2 over a supported Ni catalyst contg. 2-20 wt.% elementary Ni, which has been treated with elementary S or an S contg. cpd. eg. thiophene at 0-100 esp. 25-80'C. Hydrogenation takes place at 0-300 esp. 25-100'C at 0-7 pref. 3.5-6.3 atm. at a flow speed of 1-10 V/V/hr. A diluent such as butane or an inert gas may be used. Less than 10% olefin is isomerised, and less than 10 ppm butadiene remain. |
