A developing device (8) is described, for developing a latent image on a light-sensitive body (2) by means of a toner (T), having a developing roller (35), which is disposed to be movable at a spacing from the light-sensitive body (2) and carries the toner (T) on its peripheral surface, as well as a first drive (38A) for the drive of the developing roller (35) in one direction. The toner (T) entrained by the developing roller (35) in the course of its rotation by the first drive (38A) is conveyed for accumulation onto the latent image on the light-sensitive body (2), in order to develop this latent image. A movable limiting or regulating roller (36) which is separated from the developing roller (35) by a predetermined gap ( l ), contacts the toner (T) which is situated between its peripheral surface and that of the developing roller (35), leaves behind on the peripheral surface of the developing roller (35) a thin layer of the toner (T) of prescribed thickness, and entrains a thin layer of the residual toner (T) on its peripheral surface.
