<p>The furnace has a replenishment hopper separated by a wall from the combustion chamber, to which it is connected by a passage above the grate. Between the hopper and the furnace casing are one or more passages, connected at top and bottom by other passages to the hopper above the grate, and supplied with air, preferably at the top, via an inlet port, adjustable if desired. This passage between hopper and casing is separated from the hopper by a water-cooled wall running between the top and bottom passages, and the hopper top is supplied constantly with air via an opening. This is adjustable, so that the passage receives via the top one a mixture of air and gases above the load in the hopper.</p> |
