Continuous alloy strip, which has a thickness of 0.070 inches and is called Society of Automotive Engineering alloy No.781, is formed by bonding a aluminum alloy and a reinforcing layer of 1008 steel. The aluminum alloy has a composition of silicon (4 wt.%), cadmium (1 wt.%), copper (0.15 wt.%), magnesium (0.20 wt.%), and aluminum. The continuous strip is transferred through a melt-tank at 365.5≦̸C a speed of 12 ft/min. The melt-tank is filled with plating material having a composition of lead (88 wt.%), tin (10 wt.%), and zinc (2 wt.%). The plated strip is cooled and cut. |
