The invention relates to a mining method for seam-like deposits, in which two gate roads (1, 2) used for the air supply, travelling, transporting materials and conveying the output are driven in the deposit parallel to one another at a considerable distance apart, between which gate roads (1, 2) the mining of the coal takes place at least at one longwall face which is advanced transversely to its longitudinal extent. In order to design a mining method of this type in such a way that it is more flexible and more readily adaptable to geological faults, the invention proposes that the face, formed as a short face (8, 9, 10), run parallel to the gate roads (1, 2), and that the mining of the section of the deposit located between the gate roads (1, 2) take place successively in strips, the length of which corresponds to the distance between the gate roads (1, 2) and the width of which corresponds to the length of the short face (8, 9, 10), the connection between the face (8, 9, 10) and the gate road (1, 2) being effected by mine-air and conveying passages (4, 5) which are driven merely in the seam thickness and run parallel to the gate roads (1, 2). The face equipment of the short face (8, 9, 10) is here moved into the corresponding accompanying passage (4, 5) of the gate road (1, 2) in each case at the end of the working of a headroom, is displaced there in its longitudinal axis by roughly its own length and is prepared for working the next headroom in the opposite direction. <IMAGE>
