To produce threads on lathes by means of dies or taps or by means of leadscrew and turning tool, difficulties often occur, such as, for example, non-concentric, imprecise or untidy threads or the time required is too great. The problem is solved by such a combination in which a die or a tap is attached in a cylindrical insert in such a way that a satisfactory axial thread cut can be made by precise guidance between the cylindrical basic body and the cylindrical precision-guide tube in which the insert is located. The thread length can be set exactly, and the cutting tool automatically returns into the initial position due to a micro limit switch which changes the direction of rotation. In this device for conventional lathes, precise threads are produced without considerable wear of the tools. The construction of the device can be seen in detail from Fig. 1. <IMAGE>
