PURPOSE:To provide a gas permselective composite membrane excellent in permselectivity of oxygen gas, obtained by coating at least the single surface of a hydrophylic porous membrane with a thin layer comprising a mixture of fine metal oxide particles and a specific water soluble high-molecular compound. CONSTITUTION:At least the single surface of a hydrophilic porous membrane with a pore size of 1mum or less or a porous membrane, to which hydrophilic treatment is preliminarily applied by coating or containing alcohol, is coated with a solution mixture consisting of an aqueous solution of a water soluble high-molecular compound such as polyvinyl alcohol or carboxy methyl cellulose and a suspension of hydrated or hydratable metal oxide such as SnO2, ZnO, Al2O3, MgO or CaO, metal oxide having oxygen absorbing capacity such as Cu2O, MnO or NiO or metal oxide having a rutile crystal structure such as TiO2 or VO2 in a thickness of 10nm-10mum. By this method, a composite membrane suitable for an air electrode excellent in permselectivity of oxygen gas and enabled in heavy load discharge over a long period of time is obtained. |
