In the manufacture of sliding clasp fasteners, a rotating drum (1) carries a number of pairs of half moulds (2, 3) and is driven with an intermittent motor by a Geneva wheel (4). The outer half moulds (3) are swung outwards to permit the entry of the fabric strip (15). As the drum rotates the moulds (2, 3) come close together and a thermosetting plastic is injected into the moulds from the injector (5). As the drum continues to rotate the moulds (2, 3) are reopened and the fabric strip (15) emerges with the teeth (14) of the fastener cast in position. The speed of rotation of the drum (1) is chosen so that the plastic has sufficient time to set before the moulds reopen.
|
