A process is disclosed for the preparation of ethercarboxylates by oxidation of etheralcohols, having the general formula of R-O-CH2CH2O)nH, where R represents an alkyl group having 8-22 carbon atoms, a phenyl group or an alkylphenyl group and n a whole number from 1-100, or mixtures of these etheralcohols, or by oxidation of oxyethylene-oxypropylene block copolymers having an average molecular weight of 1000-12000 and a content of 10-80% by weight ethylene oxide units, or mixtures of these copolymers. In this process a catalyst is used which, in adition to palladium, also contains platinum in a platinum : palladium weight ratio of between 0.1:1 and 5:1. |
