Benzenesulphonyl ureas of general formula: - (I) R and R1 = same or different H, Hal, AlKO, or Acyl or Alk which may be substd. by Hal, NH2, OH. - R and R1 may be satd. or unsatd. - I has hypoglycaemic activity which is substantially higher than that of N-(4-methylbenzene-sulphonyl)-N'-n-butyl urea (II).I (R=4-Me;R1=H) was administered to normal dogs at a dosage of 2.5 mg/kg (oral) and the % lowering in blood sugar level compared with that effected by an equal dose of II over a 6 hr. period. - Compound % Lowering of B.S.L. after - 1 2 3 4 5 6 hrs - I 18.525 27 20 9.59% - II 6 12.510.59.56 7
