The method and apparatus for continuously producing a tube (4), or tube cluster, having an insulating coating of foamed thermoplastic material comprises briefly heating a strip (1) of foamed plastic on the side of it later forming the inside of the insulating coating until it is in the thermoelastic or thermoplastic state, then shaping it transversely to its longitudinal extent around a continuously introduced tube (4), sealing the butt joint and, by drawing through a moulding tube (8), forming the insulating coating, which is then cooled. During the method, the strip (1), or the insulating coating, is advanced by means of a conveyor belt (9), air being introduced between the inside of the moulding tube (8) and the insulating coating or conveyor belt (9), to form an air cushion. <IMAGE> |
