The method concerns the cleaning of steam generators with a boiler and a cluster of U-shaped pipes. Two high pressure jet pipes 16 carrying a spraying head 17 are introduced through two access ports 11, 13 and are simultaneously and intermittently displaced along their axis. When the heads 17 are able to spray between the rows of pipes, the jet pipes 16 are made to pivot to and fro over 180 DEG . At least during such pivoting, liquid is atomised under a pressure of 200 bars at a total flow rate of over 200 litres per minute. The liquid is drained from the bottom 2 with a suction capacity greater than the aforesaid flow rate. If the access ports 11, 13 are situated above the lower support plate 8, cleaning is carried out between the bottom 2 and the plate 8 with four high pressure jet pipes 25.
