Improved bending machine for forming bends on the edges of sheet metal panels. In a bending machine in accordance with the invention comprising clamp means (8), for clamping part of the sheet material (5), and forming tool (3), with which force is applied to the unclamped part of the sheet material, to effect a bend, the forming tool (3), has a curved forming surface extending from the end of the tool (3), along the side of the tool closest to the clamp means such that as the forming tool moves towards and through the plane of the sheet material (5), the point of application of the force moves along the sheet material from the first point of contact with the forming tool towards the clamp (8), the curve of said surface being such that a substantially constant load is applied by the forming tool (3), on the sheet material. |
