Throughput control for a refrigerant of an absorption heat pump, which is supplied to an evaporator via a digital expansion valve forming an actuating member, the measurable variable of the control being exclusively the temperature of the refrigerant downstream of the expansion valve and the reference variable being the outside temperature. This throughput control has a further control superimposed on it, the measurable variable of which is the temperature of the refrigerant downstream of the evaporator, this control closing the expansion valve when the vapour temperature falls below a predetermined limit value dependent upon the outside temperature.
