PURPOSE:To equalize the durabilities of flanges which function to transmit loads to a suction or exhaust valve to open and close it by making the area of the opening flange larger than that of the closing flange and equalize the pressures which are applied on the faces of said flanges. CONSTITUTION:A retainer 17 which transmits compulsively valve opening and closing forces to a suction or exhaust valve 13 consists of the primary flange 48 to which a force is transmitted to open the valve, the secondary flange 49 to which a force is transmitted to close it, and a cylindrical part 47. A U-shaped engagement part 36 of a rocker arm which transmits compusively opening and closing forces is inserted between both the flanges 48 and 49. The retainer 17 is so designed that the area of the primary flange 48 is made larger than that of the secondary flange 49 and pressures of the engagement part 36 of the rocker arm are applied equally on the areas of both the flanges. Consequently, the retainer may be reduced in weight and its flanges be kept in balance in their properties of durability. |
