Protecting concrete pile in sea-water from infestation damage - by pouring sand in annular space between mantle and pile pref. via waste oil

The method is intended for protecting a concrete pile supporting an offshore platform on the seabed from damage due to attack by organisms. A mantle is arranged around the pile such that an annular space is provided which is subsequently filled with sand. A layer of an oil product or residue may first be introduced to float on the water in that space after which the sand is poured through this layer to form a protective layer of oil-coated sand particles, the displaced water preferably discharging via openings in the mantle covered by coconut matting of the like.
