PURPOSE:To obtain a high performance magnetic recording medium which exhibits high Hc, high magnetization and high corrosion resistance of amorphous iron nitride proper by providing a magnetic layer whose main component is amorphous iron nitride. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer contains amorphous iron nitride as the main component. For instance a magnetic recording layer 14 whose main component is amorphous Fe1-xNx is formed on a supporting material S made of aluminum, polyethylene terephthalate and the like. In addition to Fe1-xNx, which occupies materially 100% as the main component, other 2nd components (for instance, metals such as Ni, Al, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Cu, W, Pt, Zr, Nb and Mo, non-metals such as F, Ne, P, S, As and Se or semi-metals such as C, Si and Ge) may be contained. (x) in Fe1-xNx is especially recommended to be x>=0.4, for instance Fe60N40-Fe50N50 (x=0.4-0.5). |
