Machine tool with tool-change attachment as well as a drive spindle for a horizontally operating workhead, a work-holding table and a column, carrying the horizontal spindle, which can be moved in the horizontal plane and vertically relative to one another, which machine tool, for the purpose of universal use, has an additional vertical-spindle device with a vertical-spindle adaptor which can alternatively be put in front of the horizontal spindle via a coupling, and furthermore the additional vertical-spindle device has a vertical-spindle change means with which the vertical-spindle adaptor can be put in front of the horizontal spindle or removed, and the tool-change attachment has a device for displacing the tool changer from a position automatically supplying the horizontal spindle or its workhead with tools into a position loading the vertical spindle or its workhead with tools, or vice versa. <IMAGE>
