In a method for packaging sausage with a hoisting sling in bags made of flexible tube, the sausage is combined, one end in front of the other, with a film, the latter is placed around the sausage and the resulting flexible tube is sealed longitudinally and at a distance from both ends of the sausage with the flexible tube being cut to length, the hoisting sling being diverted before longitudinal sealing of the flexible tube to an angle in relation to the sausage and approximately into the plane of the subsequent longitudinal seam, in such a way that it projects outwards over the longitudinal edges of the film which are still open and is then embedded in the longitudinal seam. In a device for carrying out the method, a plurality of carriers resting on a rotary drive are provided, every other one of which being designed as a pulling element and taking hold of the hoisting sling, while the carriers lying inbetween act on the sausage as pushing elements, the pulling element immediately in front of the device for longitudinal sealing being deflectable between the still open longitudinal edges of the film of the bag made of flexible tube, approximately in the plane thereof, carrying the hoisting sling with it and releasing the hoisting sling at the latest when it is enclosed in the longitudinal seam.
