<p>Sepn. of soluble magnesium from wet process superphosphoric acid contg. 62-72 wt.% P2O5 (10-45% of which is in polyphosphate form) and 0.5-3.0 wt.% MgO comprises (i) ageing the acid at 85-180 deg.C for 4-180 hrs. with intermittent agitation of 0.4-50% of the ageing time, followed by (ii) filtering the aged acid at 85-180 deg.C. - Pref. the acid contains 25-35% of the P2O5 in polyphosphate form, and the ageing is effected at 105-140 deg.C for 8-36 hrs. with agitation of 0.4-6% of the ageing time. - By effecting ageing with a relatively low amt. of intermittent agitation rather than with continuous agitation, the Mg is pptd. in the form of crystal agglomerates of MgH2P2O7 which are easily sepd. by filtration.
