A method for isolating living, isolatable hybrid cells of a continuous dividing cell (e.g. a malignant myeloma cell) and a normal cell (incapable of continuous division) wherein hybridization is conducted in discrete, individual reaction chambers containing a predetermined number of continuous dividing cells and normal cells such that only a single hybrid therebetween can form in any chamber. The method insures that, after suitable isolation procedures, each identified living hybridoma necessarily will have been derived from a single hybrid cell of a continuous dividing cell and a normal cell and, thus, is capable of producing only a single, monoclonal product. |
