The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for treating a liquid phase having substances or mixtures of substances present in this, the liquid phase containing the substances present in it being concentrated by heating and the resultant vapour phase being removed and/or disposed of. According to the invention it is provided that a portion of the liquid phase containing the substances present in it is branched off from the evaporation area before or during the evaporation process and is heated to a temperature at which the contents of the liquid phase react to completion and/or are converted into the solid phase and/or carbonise or granulate.
