A glass column (1) to be filled with an adsorbent (2) has essentially the same internal diameter over its entire length and is furnished with a flange (6) at each end (3). Various cover parts (6) and various bottom parts (9) can be connected to the ends (3) via suitable clamping apparatuses. A modular system is achieved as a result by means of which an apparatus can be modified using few manual operations. The tubular configuration of the glass column (1) permits operation at high pressures. <IMAGE>
