The invention relates to a device for separating out labels and other contaminants, such as shards and foreign bodies. This device can be used with all bottle cleaning machines, but especially with brushless bottle cleaning machines. The aim of the invention is to increase the operating reliability of the bottle cleaning machine by immediately removing all sources of soiling which contaminate the wash liquor and impair the function of the bottle cleaning machine, thereby increasing the useful life of the liquor. The invention is based on the object of developing a device by means of which all labels adhering to the bottles, and contaminants, are taken hold of and discharged directly at their point of detachment or generation. According to the invention, the object is achieved in that an upper screening belt, which is bounded by inclined guide plates, is arranged above the liquor level, the surge pipe is arranged directly above the upper screening belt and a lower screening belt is arranged directly upstream of the inclined plane in the direction of transport of the bottles, to which lower screening belt the intake nozzle of a circulation pump is assigned.
