PURPOSE:To increase the porosity of a negative active material and obtain a negative plate for a lead storage battery having an improved utilization rate of the active material by adding polystyrene powder of given particle diameter in kneading a negative paste. CONSTITUTION:pulverized polystyrene powder with particle diameters of 1-10mu and a negative expander are added to lead oxide powder or the like before the mixture is kneaded to make a paste. The paste is then packed into a grid. The thus obtained body, after being immersed in an organic solvent to dissolve the pulverized polystyrene powder, is dried to remove the organic solvent thereby making a negative plate. According to this method, the porosity of the active material is increased. As a result, a negative plate for a lead storage battery containing a negative active material with an improved utilization rate can be easily obtained. |
