The front and rear edges of the originals, which are taken from an original stack (9) by means of a singling device and are conveyed by means of a transport device (11, 12) to the exposure station of the copier, are scanned by means of at least one reflected light barrier (34-36), which is connected to a control device (37), determines the length of the respectively transported original from the time differences between the passage of these edges, and controls the precise arrival of the original at its exposure position or under a stop, arranged in the exposure station, for the front edge of the original. In order to avoid measurement errors produced as a result of slippage in the direction of transport of the original, it is preferable to arrange a reflected light barrier (34) in front of, and at least one further reflected light barrier (35, 26) behind, the transport device (11, 12) which serves to feed the originals to the exposure station. <IMAGE>
