The box has a lower part (2) for receiving a stock of cord (4) and an upper part (6) which closes its upper end in the manner of a lid. In the lid at least three apertures (24) are formed between a blade (22) and a hinge (8) connecting lower part (2) and upper part (6), through which apertures a piece of cord is looped, gripped by hand and can be drawn out further in order then to be cut off against the blade (22). In order to avoid projecting parts, the apertures (24) and the blade (22) are located in a groove (18) in the upper part (6). The threading of the cord (4) through the apertures (24) is simple, and the use of a plurality of apertures prevents the extracted piece of cord from slipping back into the box. The apertures (24) are at a distance from the blade (22), so that the cut-off piece of cord projecting from the apertures is at least long enough to be capable of being gripped by hand. <IMAGE>
