On pressing down a push button (10), introduced into the lid (1) of a flushing cistern (2), a two-armed lever (16) is pivoted about its turning point and, by raising or lowering a pipe (3), the discharge valve is thus opened or closed respectively. In a sleeve (5), fastened on the cover (1) and supported by a supporting rod (4), an axially displaceable pusher member (12), having a pusher head (14) which can be pivoted out laterally, is provided. On pressing the push button (10) down, the lever (16), according to its pivot position on the power arm (16a) or the load arm (16c) in each case, is pivoted about the turning point, with the result that the pipe (3) is raised or lowered. Two cams (22, 25) prevent the pusher head (14) from sliding off laterally. The run-out of the flushing water from the flushing cistern (2) can be interrupted at will if the entire quantity of flushing water is not required.
