A description is given of a drum (10) and a process for chemically treating the surface of bulk mass-produced parts in aqueous solutions, for example in pickling solutions and in electroless copper-plating, nickel-plating or silver-plating solutions. The wall (13) of the drum (10) is perforated and a cylinder (16) is mounted centrally inside it. Both the drum (10) and the inner cylinder (16) may be made either of a metallic material or of an electrically nonconducting plastic. The load (1) of bulk mass-produced parts is preferably introduced into the drum (10) in such a way that the load (1) at least partly covers the inner cylinder (16) and the mass-produced parts fall around the inner cylinder (16) as the drum moves in the treatment solution. The shape of the drum body (13) may be either prismatic, for example hexagonal, or cylindrical. The length of the drum body (13) along its axis of rotation may be either larger than, or, in special cases, less than, the (mean) diameter of its cross section perpendicular to the axis of rotation. If the length of the drum (10) is shorter than the diameter of its drum body (13), the two end faces (11) are also perforated. <IMAGE>
