PURPOSE:To reduce the loss by charging a snubber capacitor before switching elements of paired arms are turned ON, and eliminating the charging current through the snubber capacitor when the switching elements are turned ON. CONSTITUTION:Switches 34, 44, 54, 64 for returning the energy of the snubber capacitors and switches 35, 45, 55, 65 connected in antiparallel therewith are provided. GTO 3 and GTO 6 are simultaneously turned ON and OFF, and GTO 4 and GTO 5 are turned OFF and ON reversely thereto. When the GTOs are turned ON, the switches 34, 44, 54, 64 are simultaneously closed. The switches 35, 45, 55, 65 are closed before the GTOs of the paired arms are turned ON, i.e., after the OFF of the GTOs are finished.
