PRODUCTION OF PHOSPHONITRILE BEARING ALKOXY GROUPS

PURPOSE:A specific amount of an alcohol is added stepwise to phosphonitrile to effect their reaction in the presence of an organic tertiary amine to cause the substitution with alkoxy groups whereby the titled compound used as a flame retarder is obtained with industrial advantage. CONSTITUTION:The reaction between phosphonitrile chloride oligomer and an alcohol is carried out at ratio of 0.2-0.8 equivalent of the alcohol to one equivalent of active chlorines in the oligomer in the presence of an organic tertiary amine more than the equivalent of the alcohol at a temperature lower than 20 deg.C to replace 34-75% of the active chlorines, then the temperature is raised to cause condensation by elimination of alkyl chloride. Then, alcohol is added to the product in an amount more than the equivalent of the remaining active chlorines to effect the reaction whereby the remaining active chlorines are substantially substituted with alkoxy groups to give the objective compound.
